David Rudisha resolves to outdo Wilson Kipketer’s record in Brussels – Athletics news
David Rudisha, the 22-year-old Kenyan who is the fastest runner in the world over a distance of 800m, just a day ahead of the second final of Samsung Diamond League in Brussels, has expressed his resolve to take over the course record set by Wilson Kipketer,
the former middle distance runner from Denmark.
The Belgacom Memorial Van Damme – Samsung Diamond League race, which will conclude this year’s prestigious athletics event will commence on September 16.
Rudisha has been rightly at ease with having the Brussels competition in hand. Back in August 27, through his performance, he has already marked the fact that overdoing him was not an even target. While confronting him for a Samsung Diamond League trophy
along with a $40,000 cash prize, his rivals will have to showcase best of the potential that they possess.
Apparently, the formidable Kenyan performer is free of any pressure as he understands well the difference between his skill level and the best of what his competitors could display. However, he is not taking the task in hand lightly. Rather, he is very much
determined to display his potential to claim the event title along with the course record in Brussels. The current course record is in place for the last fourteen years and stands at an impressive finishing time of one minute, 42.20 seconds.
Rudisha, who just missed another world record performance in Reiti, is of the view that embarking on the present course record will certainly not be an easy job. He was of the view that the course in Brussels was not easy and provided that they had a supportive
weather, all what he could promise was his best to prevail in the event. He said, “Its tough stadium record to bring down, but that is my focus if everything goes well and we have good weather.”
Rudisha, the Kenyan who boasts of possessing four of the top-ten best finishes of his specialised distance, will also try to dominate the track with a greater margin as Brussels will provide him with the right forum to show his muscle, ahead of next year’s
2012 London Olympics.
