David Rudisha to compete in the Samsung Diamond League in May at Doha – Athletics News
World Athlete of the Year 2010, David Rudisha, has confirmed his participation in the Samsung Diamond League, to be held in Doha, Qatar, on May 6.
The 22-year-old, energetic Kenyan athlete will compete in his second Diamond race event and will surely attract a huge number of supporters to the event.
The President of the Qatar Association of Athletics Federation and Chair-person of the Samsung Diamond League have announced Rudisha will take part in the 800m event, at the Qatar Sports Club.
Rudisha expressed about his preparation for the event and said, “My training has been good and my progress is coming along very well. I’ve come back from Australia and my training has been strong. The way I feel, I think I’m going to do well in Doha.”
The Kenyan has been in good form since 2010, but he started late this year with his training, clocking a best time of 1:43:88 seconds and 1:44:80 seconds in two meets at the 800 metres event in Australia.
In Doha, he has planned to improve his performance step-by-step. Rudisha said, “I just want to run the way I did last year. I want to take it step-by-step, and improve step-by-step. With (the World Championships in) Daegu coming later this year, I just want
to progress step-by-step, just like last year.”
The athlete’s next target is the South Korean World Championship in Daegu, to be held from August 27 to September 4.
Before the event in South Korea, he has to compete in Rome on May 26 and also at 59th event of the Ostrava Golden Spike meet on May 31. Rudisha has not won a world title yet and will be looking to set the record straight in the Daegu event.
Rudisha added, “I’ve been running well since about 2007, but up to now I’ve haven’t won any World championship titles so now I have to focus first on Daegu. When you win titles you leave a legacy behind for people to remember you. My father (Daniel) won
(4x400m Relay) silver at the Olympics in 1968 and people remember him. So it’s important to win World titles.”
He is currently focusing on the Samsung Diamond League to compete in the 800 metres event. Despite having the capability to contest in the 400m and 1500m category, the Kenyan has decided to stick to the 800m race, as he wants to focus more and not take any
risk at this level.
The Samsung Diamond League will consist of fourteen meets and is scheduled to start from May 6. Concluding on September 16, the tournament is sure to be one of the finest displays of athleticism, as competitors from all over the globe will compete for podium
positions.
