David Saker blames technical flaws not Anderson absence for their collapse
Following Sri Lanka’s tremendous batting show at the 2nd and 3rd days of the 2nd Test at Lord’s, the English bowling coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-James-Saker-c52896, thinks that his bowling department has certain technical drawbacks that have caused them the damage. Unlike others, he
is not ready to accept that the absence of injured pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705, is an excuse of shoddy bowling performance by his team.
After winning the 1st Test of the series of three at Cardiff, the English skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465, in the squad to fill the gap of Anderson, who rendered unfit after an injury in the
first game, and cash out the Lankans’ pace weakness.
In the ongoing 2nd Test, England scored 486 in their first innings. In reply, the Lankan batsmen are showing stiff resistance in their first innings as they have piled up 372 runs for just 3 wickets. The skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691, lashed his career best
193 and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NT-Paranavitana-c2132 fell for 65.
Saker argues that the English bowling department lacks consistency and technical maturity. He lauds Anderson and considers him a precious asset for the team but he condemns his pace trio to use Jimmy’s absence as a cover-up for them.
Talking to the media today, he said, “Jimmy in particular has been outstanding. We expect him to bowl his first 16 overs for 30 runs, and that sets the scene for us to really attack with the other bowlers.”
He went on to say, “I'm not using that as an excuse. We knew going into this without Jimmy someone had to put their hand up and bowl well.”
Saker’s concerns are follow up of Matt Prior’s yesterday outburst against Team England's bowling line-up.
Saker, the former Australian cricketer, was hired as bowling coach by England Cricket Board (ECB) in April 2010. He had worked as assistant coach at Victoria before joining the English. The coach has a handsome experience of List A and First Class cricket.
Despite all the odds, the 45-year-old is hopeful that the English will win the 2nd Test as well. He also hopes that Jimmy will return by the 3rd match.
