David Sharpe wins Men’s 200m butterfly gold: Day two - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
David Sharpe of HTAC won gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on day two of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Wednesday, March 28.
Sharpe stayed considerably ahead of his challengers from the start of the 200m event. With his unimaginable efforts, he gained a considerable advantage over his competitors in the first lap and paved his way to the victory stand for gold medal.
With his stunning efforts, he ended his first half of the race in a time of 26.08 seconds. He was followed by Zack Chetrat of TSC, who stayed 0.21 seconds behind him and covered the equivalent distance with the timing of 26.29 seconds.
Sharpe continued his smothering efforts in the second round, but his struggle was overpowered by Chetrat, who gained lead in the second lap and ended his first half of the event in a time of 56.13 seconds. In contrast, Sharpe stayed 0.45 seconds behind his
initial half of the swim in a time of 56.58 seconds.
Chetrat continued his stupendous efforts in the third lap, where he served notice of his talent and ended his 150 metres of the swim by posting a time of 1 minute and 27.02 seconds. Sharpe remained 0.33 seconds slower from his strongest challenger and enveloped
the equivalent distance with an effort of 1 minute and 27.35 seconds.
The fourth lap of the event saw gruelling efforts of Sharpe, who restored his top position for gold medal by completing his race in a time of 1 minute and 58.81 seconds. His efforts remained 0.02 seconds ahead of Chetrat, who settled on the victory stand
for silver medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 58.83 seconds.
Alec Page of IS remained nearly one second slower from the silver medallist and proved his eligibility for bronze medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 59.99 seconds.
Sharpe was excited with his gold winning effort as he booked his spot in the Canadian team to the 2012 London Olympic Games while the session ended after the completion of all events.
