David Steicke vs. Antonio Esfandiari – Five Diamond World Poker Classic 2011
The huge 413 contestant field at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic has shrunk to just 18 players after four days of exciting play at Bellagio, Las Vegas Nevada. Leader of Day 3, Kyle Julius, slipped down to number seven in the standings at the event, with Soi Nguyen moving up one spot to lead the board. Level 20 of the tournament will begin at Day 5 on Saturday, with blinds increased to 8,000-16,000 and a 2000 ante.
David Steicke eliminated at 19th place at the hands of Antonio Esfandiari
145,000 chips were already in the pot when David Steicke checked form the small blind, with a queen of spades, queen of hearts and three of hearts falling on the flop. Sitting on the raiser button, Antonio Esfandiari threw 83,000 more chips in the pot and Steicke raised the bet to a total of 200,000 after a long pause. This left 300,000 chips in his pocket.
After thinking for a minute, Esfandiari moved all-in with his chips. Steick was confident with his pocket rockets, ace of hearts and ace of spades and called his opponent, who revealed his king of diamonds and queen of clubs, aiming for trip queens. A jack of spades on the turn didn’t make any difference but a two of diamonds on the river proved decisive in the hand. Esfandiari’s trip queens prevail over Steicke’s pair of aces, eliminating him from the event.
With the river hitting the board, Esfandiari’s father, who was sitting in the crowd broke an enthusiastic round of applause for his winner son, who collected a huge pot to remain alive in the tournament. Steicke left the table wishing good luck to Esfandiari for the rest of the tournament.
