David Stern what have you done?

Does anyone find it ironic that in attempt to pimp out the NBA by spending so much time, effort and money on globalizing the league and marketing foreign players, David Stern is beginning to lose players to these markets?

Mark Cuban has called him out for focusing promotional efforts overseas rather than here in the US where instead we are blasted with promotional propaganda from MLS, MMA, UFC and other mediocre sports that most of the country doesn't care about.

Now, Stern is losing his own players and yes, its only Josh Childress, Bostjan Nachbar, Carlos Delfino and possibly Delonte West for now. But what about when older stars are on the downward slope of their career? Or When European teams can offer more money to rising stars. Thanks Stern for pushing away NBA players and compromising the leagues integrity and validity. The NBA has BEEN basketball for the past 50 years, now its looking like it could turn into another "professional basketball league"

  1. NBA counters this by raising league salary cap. Let the Euros overpay for mediocra players. Its true though it could develop into a frenzy, but David Stern did a worse job eliminating Defense from the NBA w/ no hand check, defensive 3sec and no forearms in back on postup.

  2. it was the hawks choice to not overpay childress.....

  3. First Haloengel is a dumb ***, seriously retarded.  Second, the NBA is on a slippery slope, this seems like the beginning of some big changes.  But really, Haloengel is an idiot.

  4. Hawks couldn't meet the other teams offer so Josh went there.Get your facts straight beore looking like a complete idiot.

  5. What up Capdaddy,

This is probably the first offseason where we have seen such a mass exodus of players going to Europe (Sahsa Vujacic and Carl Landry- are rumored to be heading to Europe as well).  And we also saw Brandon Jennings (who was supposed to go to University of Az sign with a team from Italy)... so i think this is something that has to get the NBA's attention- and i think it'll really be noticeable if a big name player heads over to Europe.  It's in some ways healthy that there is competition and that NBA talent is able to develop overseas.

It's really hard to compete with tax free dollars overseas.  i mean Josh Childress was getting three years $22 million (over $7 million tax free) the American equivalent would be close to $10 million a year (and no one would pay Childress that kind of money (regardless of the salary cap).  i think if the Euro league continues to overpay for players- maybe eventually they'll see how badly they are over-paying for their players- or we will continue to see an exodus of NBA players- play overseas for money.  It would improve the overseas game and globalize the game- but you would think any professional basketball player would want to play at the highest level which is the NBA.

  6. i feel what ur saying. i cud imagine aging nba stars headin to europe for more money. the worst part is stern cant do anything about it.

all he can do is promote the nba more and more. europe is just a better situation for some players who dont get enough money or playing time.

Europe has really stepped up this summer.

  7. That is part of globalization, and with our US dollar we are way behind at least in that aspect right now. Stern would like to expand to Europe with the NBA and that might be some help, depending on how they would be able to work it.

The simple fact is that no league or team can be the best without competing and that is what the NBA is looking at. The smaller the world, the bigger the task of staying on top.
