David Taylor steps down as the Federation Cup Captain of Team Australia – Tennis News
Australia’s Federation Cup Captain, David Taylor, decided to pass away the duty of grooming the top national women for the team tournament. The decision was taken with the mutual consent of the Australian Tennis Federation and
the coach himself. He wanted to retain focus only on coaching the Former US Open Champion, Samantha Stosur, who is the top ranked Australian lady at the moment, holding the ninth spot in the world rankings.
It wasn’t an easy decision for the lad but he had to let it go because the diversion of concentration wasn’t helping any of the two parties. In a press conference that revealed his retirement as the Federation Cup Captain, Taylor
said, “I especially wanted to mention the fantastic support I have enjoyed from our Fed Cup coach Nic Bradtke, who has been a crucial part of the team. I have been honoured to work with Nic as I have also to see several players make their debut during my time.
I have also been saddened to see the retirement of greats like Alicia Molik and Rennae Stubbs during my time.”
He further added, “The common theme through it all though has been the selfless commitment from our players to our team goals and the terrific team environment that they all very much subscribe to. It has made my role so much easier
over the years.”
Taylor was extremely confident about the fact that his successor will do the job in a better manner and take the team ahead with utmost determination and hard work. It is difficult to divide the time between two things in a professional
life and the time had arrived that I say goodbye to one party.
The Australian Tennis Federation praised the work of Taylor on his departure. The Director, Craig Tiley, stated that he was the perfect person for the duty of upbringing talented squad of Federation Cup. However, the search has
began to replace Taylor and the newest arrival to the job will have almost a month and a half to prepare for the first test that will began against the reigning Federation Cup Champions, Czech Republic, in February, 2013. The tie will be contested in Prague
and it will make very difficult for the new captain to go home with a positive result on his first assignment.
