David Toms recalls happy moments of his victory at Colonial Country Club last year
David Toms, the former defending champion at the Crowne Plaza Invitational, recalled the memories of his win a year ago at the Colonial Country Club as the best moments of his career on the PGA Tour.
He was talking to the media on Monday, May 21, 2012, and said that he feels as if it happened yesterday. He was enjoying the win while ending the six-year PGA Tour drought.
At that time, Toms had recorded a total of 13 PGA Tour wins in his career, including a victory in the 2001 PGA Championship and the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in 2005.
However, he believes that the win at Colonial was the best of all. He said that he cannot forget the moments of his then six-year-old daughter, Anna, and then 13-year-old son Carter running on the greens, following his win in the event.
"I can remember it like it was yesterday," Toms said. "It was a real special moment because the last time I had won a tournament, my daughter was there, but she was just a baby".
"Carter would hit balls from time to time back then, but he wasn't much of a golfer. He didn't know that much about it. To have him there when he's really into the game was a great time for me and my family".
He also told that he was accompanied by more than 50 people in the clubhouse after he holed the final hole of the event.
He said that they celebrated a win after a very long time. Therefore, it was a special moment for him and his friends.
"Those were all the people that were behind me, through the good and the bad," Toms said. Last year, he finished 20th on the FedEx Cup standing and also qualified for the Presidents Cup.
This year, he has not been able to make a good mark on the PGA Tour. However, his top-10 finish in the Players Championship could help him boost his morale for the upcoming tournaments.
Currently, he is ranked 95th in the FedEx Cup listing for the 2012 PGA Tour season.
