Pacific Events Centre, Manukau, New Zealand.
King connected 163 shots to the Tua in response to 278 shots hit by him.
The 38 years old, David Tua fought his first fight after getting recovered from a shoulder injury. David Tua is currently the Oriental and Asia Pacific Heavyweight champion of World Boxing Organisation (WBA). He won the Amateur Heavyweight championship in
1988 then because of his prominent left hook ability made him recognised in the boxing world.
David Tua with this win has improved his professional record as follows. He fought 57 fights in total, won 52 fights including 43 wins by KO, 3 losses of fights and 2 draws.
Professional heavyweight champion, David Tua has won 9 consecutive fights when a draw came into his way fighting against Monte Barrett on 17th July, 2010 at the Tropicana Casino and Resort, Atlantic City, New Jersey. He has lost his three fight
competitions in total. First loss was caused by Ike Ibeabuchi on 8th June, 1997 at the Arco Arena, Sacramento in California. The second loss was on 11th November, 2000 in Nevada and the third loss was faced by him in 18th August,
2001 at the Cox Pavilion in Nevada. Interestingly he has never been knocked out by anyone.
American national, Demetrice King has now lost his 3rd bout consecutively. His last win was against Bowie Tupou on 1st August, 2009 at the Agua Caliente Casino, Rancho Mirage, in United States. Where he won KO decision at 0:53 seconds.
Demetrice King having nickname of ‘Only by K.O’ disappointed his boxing fans. After getting defeated by David Tua, his professional record has fallen to as follows. He 35 fights in total of which he won only 15 fights including 13 wins by KO with 20 losses
including 2 by KO and no draw of fight.
If we look at King’s last 20 defeats so the only two defeats came to his way in the shape of KO. He does not allow his challengers to win KO decision against him easily. King showed he is very good at his defence and he can be dangerous contender for David
Tua to cause an upset.
David Tua was dominant from the beginning but could not land the knockout punch. In the second round Tua was hit by a shot square on his chin. In response to this Tua came aggressively by landing hard punches to King’s head. King invited Tua in the sixth
round so that he could attack. He landed right-left combination of punches but he was not seriously harmed. Tua was found to be very fit, sharp, energetic and busy through his fight. He was very effective to deliver left jab and left hook.
After winning against King, Tua spoke to the press saying that I am very satisfied with my performance. However, he is not an easy contender to beat. One can easily deceived by his record but he was there to compete. I did the best what I could in front
of him.
Interestingly, after getting recognised as a possible professional contender in 1992 it was his first fight in South Auckland.
Tua has to settle down a rematch with Barrett hopefully in Auckland in June. If Tua wins it is likely that his next fight would be against a top ten fighter. According to the Cedric Kushner the promoter of Tua, they have received an offer from one of the
Klitschko brothers to fight with them but the negotiations fell down just because of unfair fight terms.
