David Villa believes that Barcelona can still beat Arsenal
Barcelona striker, David Villa, still believes his side can beat Arsenal after the Catalans lost 2-1 in London at the Emirates stadium on 16 February. The striker said that his side is very capable of overturning the result at Camp Nou, in the second leg
of the knock-out stage tie of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League.
The two sides also met last year in the quarter-finals of the competition, when Barcelona thrashed the Gunners with an aggregate of 6-3. Later, both sides drew at Emirates Stadium 2-2 but Lionel Messi scored all four goals in their next match-up to give
Barcelona a brilliant 4-1 victory at Camp Nou.
In Wednesday’s game, Villa opened the scoring for Barcelona in the 26th minute after a clinical pass from Lionel Messi. The striker insisted that there is still a match left to play at home and the result can turn their way. "We have been further
in the competition. There are 90 minutes left in the tie and the result can be saved at home”, Villa said during an interview.
David Villa added that there is still time in the second leg and the Catalans’ focus should be the Spanish League before they play the Gunners on the eighth of March. Real Madrid has closed the gap to a mere five points after Barcelona dropped points against
Sporting Gijon over the weekend. Barcelona still have to play at the Santiago Bernabeu and with 15 matches to play in the league, the title is surely not won.
"We now have a break in the competition and we must focus on the league, but we have the talent to overturn the result”, he said.
The former Valencia man praised the home side’s performance and their attacking display. He admitted that Arsenal caused a lot of problems to the visitors and they were a difficult side to play. "Arsenal are a very good team. They caught us out on two occasions
and caused us a lot of harm”, added the Catalan.
