David Villa excited to start season at Barcelona
Spain’s world cup hero David Villa who signed for the Catalan giants Barcelona just ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, has said that he cannot wait to start his career at Barcelona and play under Pep Guardiola.
Barcelona secured the striker’s capture in May; later he went to South Africa and was the joint top scorer with 5 goals. Now Villa is saying that he wants to learn a lot from Guardiola.
In an interview with Marca, Villa said that he rates Pep Guardiola as one of the best young managers in world football. He added that it is not purely based on the results he has achieved, but he has observed his style of management which is a class above the rest.
He went on to say that his team mates in the Spanish team told him a lot of things about the manager and he is excited to start working under him. Villa said he is still growing as a player and his team mates said that Guardiola has the ability to enhance a player’s skill at individual level and also as a team player.
Spain’s ace striker said that his club captain at Barcelona told him that in his long career he has never seen a manager like Pep. Villa went on to say that those are big words coming from a man who has worked under some of the biggest names.
David Villa was linked not just with Barcelona but a number of other clubs around Europe, especially with Chelsea and Manchester United. Villa said that he never wanted to move outside of Spain and there was no club on his mind but Barcelona and he is relieved that he is finally there.
He added that having said that this does not mean that he is putting down his former club Valencia by any means. David Villa emphasized on how much he learned during his time at Valencia; he said that he was an unknown teenager when he joined them and he is what he is today because of Valencia and that club and its fans will always be in his heart.
David Villa who scored the winner for Spain in the World Cup semi final said that, he is certain that he will not take so much time at Camp Nou to adapt. He added that major chunk of the Spanish team is from Barcelona and he enjoys a great relationship with them and knows how to play alongside every single one of them.
Villa further said that there are a lot more similarities in the Spanish and Barca side, he pointed out the formation of both teams is 4-3-3 and said that he feels very comfortable in that setup.
Meanwhile Villa also commented on the new manager of Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho he said will provide Barcelona with new challenges and it will actually act as a motivating factor for the team. It was Jose Mourinho who masterminded the downfall of Barcelona in the semi final of the Champions’ League last season.
He went on to say that he has grown up watching the El Classico( Barcelona vs Real Madrid). Villa said that he had always wondered how it would feel to be involved in such a match, and now is his chance to be a part of it.
The new Barcelona man said that he wants Fabregas to join him at Barcelona, and he will do all he can to convince his Spanish team mate. Villa said that even though Barcelona have a number of excellent midfield players, but the addition of Fabregas will add another dimension to the team.
David said that he knows Fabregas does want to make the move, but it is his love for Arsenal and its fans that is keeping him. He further said that Fabregas holds his manager Arsene Wenger in the highest regard and does not want to go against his will.
Finally David Villa said that he wants to be part of history and is confident that Barcelona will go on to win multiple trophies this season.
