David Villa says Barcelona not in crisis
Barcelona striker David Villa has said that his club is not in a crisis situation.
The Blaugrana has played two successive games to 1-1 draws — against Russian champions Rubin Kazan and Real Mallorca. Barca was in complete control of both matches, but they could not overcome their less illustrious opponents.
The results mean that Barca has fallen two points behind Danish champions Copenhagen in their UEFA Champions League group. They have slipped to fourth place in La Liga behind Valencia, Villarreal and Real Madrid.
However, Villa has insisted that no one at the club is ringing the alarm bells, as there is plenty of time to make up for such poor results, by Barca standards.
Ahead of joining up with the Spain squad for UEFA 2012 European Football Championship qualifying matches against Lithuania and Scotland, he told reporters at a press conference that the players were not talking about any problems aside from their current
inability to be more clinical in front of goal.
“The evil that we have is our lack of scoring, and this is what is weighing us down. No one creates more chances than Barcelona. I don’t think that there is any crisis, because I have not heard anything, nobody has mentioned that ugly word. If [Pep] Guardiola
were to say something to that effect, it would always be in private.”
Meanwhile, the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner also spoke about the newly laid surface at the Camp Nou, which contributed to winger Pedro Rodriguez sustaining a hamstring injury, which will keep him out of action for several weeks.
“The style of the team means that we need the best pitch. Looking at it from the outside it looked good, but it cut up a lot and was becoming heavy. It raised a danger, not only for injury, but because it became heavy, and of course for what happened to
Pedro."
