David Villa 'very comfortable' working with Barcelona coach
David Villa revealed today that he is loving life at Barcelona and is pleased to be working alongside head coach Pep Guardiola.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup-winning striker joined the Catalan giants from Valencia for a fee of 40 million Euros this summer.
In an interview with the Spanish daily newspaper Sport, the 28-year-old said that, “I am very happy here and I am increasingly adapting myself to the club, the players and the coaches. I’m really enjoying it. You need to attach to a new club, a
new city and a new philosophy, but I know exactly how the players such as Andres [Iniesta], Xavi, [Carlos] Puyol . . . all of them, think.”
'Very comfortable working with Guardiola'
Villa added that he was very pleased to be working alongside Guardiola after hearing nothing but positive things about him from his Spain national team colleagues. He said that, “I am glad for what he did for me before joining, and for how he is helping
me now. I am very comfortable working with him, and he always clarifies my concerns when on the pitch.”
After Barca lost their first game at the Camp Nou in 16 months against league minnows Hercules, Villa helped the team get back into its winning ways when he scored his first goal in the club in the UEFA Champions League for a 5-1 thumping of Panathanaikos
in the group stage.
The Spain international revealed that the squad was delighted to record such an emphatic victory and it helped put the ghost of the Hercules defeat behind them. He said that, “We played a very good game, not just with the result but with how well we played.
30 shots on goal, 5-1, a missed penalty . . . we are happy because we had a great game that proves Hercules was an accident.”
