David Wai Kai Wong wins Men’s 200m freestyle title: Day two – 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Hong Kong’s David Wai Kai Wong produced a notable swim on day two of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup series, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, October 8. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 200m freestyle final.
Kai Wong beat his arch rivals, Samuel Pizzetti of Italy and Gustav Lejdstroem Aaberg of Sweden by posting a thrilling time of 1 minute and 46.70 seconds to clinch the Men’s 200m freestyle title. In the corresponding race, Pizzetti, the gold medallist in
both the Men’s 400m and 1500m freestyle races, produced an impressive splash with a sterling mark of 1 minute and 46.73 seconds to win the silver medal. Moreover, Lejdstroem Aaberg earned bronze medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 47.16 seconds.
Meanwhile, Velimir Jepanovic ST of United Arab Emirates and Kristian Kron of Sweden earned fourth and fifth place honours with an anticipated mark of 1 minute and 47.24 seconds and 1 minute and 49.27 seconds, respectively. Furthermore, Tiago Ferraro of United
Arab Emirates put in his best attempt in the final match, as he settled sixth with a mark of 1 minute and 50.73 seconds.
In the corresponding swim, s***n Makovich of Russia wound up seventh with a time of 1 minute and 52.18 seconds. Last, but not the least, s***n Makovich’s compatriot, Andrey Tamboviskiy was placed eighth in a time of 1 minute and 54.81 seconds.
Earlier, Ranomi Kromowidjojo took home the Women’s 100m freestyle title by posting a winning time of 52.88 seconds. In the corresponding meet, Marleen Veldhuis earned silver medal in a time of 53.97 seconds, whereas, Hong Kong’s Yu Hang Sze settled for bronze
title after she touched the finishing wall and ended her swim in a time of 54.27 seconds.
The top three winners were delivered medals and cash prizes after the session’s completion. The 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup is an important series for both the senior and junior level athletes to prepare themselves hard for next year’s Olympic Games, in
London.
