http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301 feels his is better equipped for ODIs – Cricket News Update
Australian top-order batsman, David Warner, feels that his performance has improved under the One Day International (ODI) format compared to what he exhibited for the national team in 2009.
Warner, who has been picked in place of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Hussey-c1380, on the Australian limited overs squads for the upcoming tour to South Africa, also said that the opportunity will serve the batter as a stepping stone towards Test cricket.
“I’m definitely more mature this time around,” Warner said. “I know what I’ve got to do and I know what to expect. I know the opposition that we’re coming up against and I know exactly what I could be up against with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409. I’ve just
got to go out there and play the way I play and hopefully I can score some runs”.
Warner also added that having been directed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558; he has learnt from his past performances and will not be repeating the mistakes he did back in 2009.
He commented, that unlike Twenty20 (T20) cricket, ODIs are more about setting up a steady ground in the early overs that should last till the later ones.
Warner’s last ODI with the Australian national side was in August 2009, when the team went against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756. During the fixture, Warner failed to offer much for the Aussies after being dismissed on a disappointing duck.
As an opening batsman, Warner has played 7 ODIs for the outback squad, earning a minor total of 106 runs at an average of 15.14.
In contrast, under the T20 format, where Warner has remained most effective, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lynette-Ann-Fullston-c73358 played 27 games, whacking 775 runs at an average of 28.70.
However, one of the reasons for picking Warner on the Aussie squad comes after the player’s recent performance during http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, where the lefty batted 152 in a practice match, 120 in an ODI and 211 in a first-class match.
Warner will now be flying with his team to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in early October, where the tourists will lock horns with the Proteas in two T20s, three ODIs and the eventual two Tests (for which the squad is yet to be announced).
