David Warner ruled out of first two ODIs against West Indies – Cricket News Update
Hard hitting Australian opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301 has been ruled out of at least the first two One Day Internationals of the just to begin home series against West Indies after suffering a fractured thumb during practice at the WACA on Wednesday, and is
also a doubtful starter for the next month’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 tour.
Warner, 26, was struck on his left thumb off teammate http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, at WACA, Perth on Friday, February 1, 2013. He was rushed to the hospital for scans on the injured hand to
determine the extent of the injury, where a fracture on left thumb was confirmed.
"While the fracture is very minor, it is not worth taking any risks," Australian cricket team’s physiotherapist Kevin Sims said in an official statement on Wednesday. "The injury will keep him out of at least the next two Commonwealth Bank Series matches
against West Indies. We'll assess how he is progressing after that to determine his availability for the remainder of the series."
Though Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has revealed that the fracture is not a serious one, the timing of the injury is very bad, as he sustained the fracture just a day before the naming of the squad for next month’s Test tour of India.
The mighty Aussies are scheduled to play five One Day Internationals against West Indies between February 1 and 10, before leaving for India to play four Tests. The first Test of the four-match series between India and Australia kick starts in Chennai
on February 22.
Cricket Australia (CA) selectors have called up http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 top-order batsman Usman Khwaja as replacement for Warner ahead of the first two one-dayers. Khawaja will fly to Perth later today to join the team before the first match of the five-ODI
series on Friday.
Hard-hitting Warner has been seen as a long-term option to open the innings for Australia both in ODIs and Tests, and his untimely injury could seriously disrupt Australia’s future plans, especially in the lead up to the back to back Ashes series.
