David Warner wants to be the next Adam Gilchrist
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918 for Australia, and lead the lines at top of the order. The ambition may be a bit too high, as there can never be one Adam Gilchrist but the
approach certainly is an optimistic one.
The 23-year-old is currently on tour with the national team in India for the ODI series, the one day matches in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 may prove to be very crucial for his future. As the selectors are looking to see who can perform on the sub continental pitches keeping
in mind that the world cup would be played there next year.
Warner up till now has generally been tagged as a T-20 specialist, but he has played 7 ODIs for Australia. His best score though came in the domestic scene back home when he smashed a blistering innings of 165 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823. He has always been
dubbed as an unpredictable player, but at the same time very explosive. Warner said that he hopes that with time he would be able to combine aggression with caution and establish himself in the team as a permanent fixture in the 50 over format.
The left hander said that Gilchrist has always been his idol, and growing up he always wanted to emulate the legendry opening batsman. He admitted that yes those may be huge shoes to fill, but one cannot get far if the goals set are easy.
Warner who played for Australia in the T-20 world cup in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 this year said that, he thinks of himself as a player in the same mould as Gilchrist. He added that even Gilchrist was not always consistent, but whenever he played any sort of a part
in a game he was able to change the match all on his own. David Warner went on to say that X-factor is something that he shares with his idol.
The left handed opening batsman has also modelled his game on the former wicketkeeper batsman. He added that Gilchrist used to play with a long handle and held the bat quite high on, and he has tried the same approach which has worked wonders for him.
"Everyone was talking about, 'We've got to get Adam out, if we don't get him out then he could put 100 on in 10 overs'. I look up to him as that kind of player, an impact player, where if I can get off to a good start, I can put the other team on the back
foot and make them worry about how they're going to get myself out, instead of the other players they should be worrying about as well." Said Warner
The last one day international David Warner played for Australia was against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. But Warner admitted that he did not find it easy to switch
between T-20 and ODI formats, but now he has worked on his game and should be able to adjust if he is given proper time in the longer format of the game.
Warner added that earlier when he was thrown into the one day team after playing in the T-20s, he thought that it was expected of him to go at the exact pace in 50 overs. But with some experience he has learned to pace his innings much better, and added
that given a consistent run he would be able to notch up big scores.
