David Wright charges hard as New York Mets beat Houston Astros 9-1 – MLB Update
David Wright struck a homer and a two-run double to clinch a desperately needed victory for New York Mets against Houston Astros 9-1 at Citi Field, New York on Thursday, April 21.
The triumph was the result of distinct coordination that the team put in after losing 12 out of last 14 matches, indicating staggering professional incompetence of the players. The demoralising experience that the team has had appears will hopefully wane
after this win.
Houston began the game by dispatching Michael Bourn on the plate that faced Chris Capuano, pitching for the Mets. Capuano did not allow the Astros to open their account. The first inning remained scoreless when J. A. Happ came out to pitch for Houston.
Both the offence and defence of the two teams were trying to exert enough pressure on each other, as the strategy adopted and implemented was pretty successful, but temporarily. Mets’ offence was able to break the scoreless game in the third inning when
Mike Nickeas homered to left, scoring the first run for the Mets.
Wright then shone and opened his account with his first homer to left centre, doubling the Mets’ lead. Ike Davis followed. The duo took the lead to 6-0 at the end of the fifth inning. Houston managed to break the drought of runs in the seventh inning when
Matt Downs singled to left as Brett Wallace scored. Capuano who had a successful spell of six shut-out innings could not contain Wallace in the seventh, but Houston could not effectually make their mark even after that.
The Mets’ defence then was strengthened by the arrival of Taylor Buchholz who made a fray marked by effectiveness and aggression. The Mets’ pitcher was too fast to be played in the eighth inning apart from one hit that he got by Angel Sanchez. Houston was
unable to score in the eighth inning.
When the Mets’ batters came in the eighth inning, it was not only a treat to watch but a formal announcement of their victory in the game. Jason Bay struck Aneury Rodriguez hard and it was the error of Houston right-fielder, Hunter Pence that allowed Wright
and Bay to take the lead to 8-0. Soon after that, Davis did it again, as he homered to centre, making it 9-1 for New York by the end of eighth inning.
Buchholz proved instrumental in the 9th inning, as the pitcher did not let the Astros’ batters to play him with ease as he pitched with remarkable effectiveness. His feat in the inning allowed the Mets to win a comfortable 9-1 victory over Houston
Astros.
