David Wright glimmers as New York Mets defeat Atlanta Braves 12-2 - MLB Update
New York Mets’ third baseman, David Wright had a tremendous day with the bat as he went 3-for-6 with an average of .267 and hit five RBIs including two runs in the Mets’ 12-2 win against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field, Atlanta on September 16.
Mets smashed four runs in the first inning to take a lead while the Braves were able to post just one run and reduced their lead 4-1 at the bottom of first inning. Wright struck a two-run homer towards left-field and Angel Pagan contributed a single run.
The third and fourth runs for the Mets were taken by Lucas Duda and Jason Bay collectively when Ruben Tejada bunted a single-run drive towards centre-field.
Josh Thole moved to second base but was thrown out at third base on advancing to play the ball. On the other hand, Michael Bourn added the first run for Atlanta when Chipper Jones bunted a sacrifice fly to centre-field. Braves’ batters reduced their lead
4-2 by posting one run at the bottom of the second inning.
Martin Prado hit a solo homer towards left-field to keep the Braves alive. During the third inning, New York scored two runs to raise their lead 6-2. Duda and Bay both again added a couple of runs for the Mets when Thole hit a single-run drive to centre-field
and Nick Evans moved to second base. Mets advanced to 10-2 in the fourth inning when their batters smashed four runs quickly on unsteady pitches.
Wright hit a three-run homer towards left-field while Jose Reyes and Pagan both made two runs jointly during the fourth inning. The fourth run was taken by Duda when Evans bunted a loopy drive towards centre-field. Mets’ starter, Chris Capuano pitched his
five innings with an ERA of 4.47 and struck-out six batters. He allowed just two runs, six hits, two walks and two earned runs on his 103 pitches.
In the sixth inning, Evans contributed a single run to give the Mets an 11-2 lead when Thole singled off right-field. During the ninth inning, Reyes contributed the last run for New York and advanced them to 12-2 when Duda singled to right-field and Wright
moved to second base to end the ninth inning.
As a result, Mets led off the three-game series 1-0 after defeating the Braves comfortably.
