David Wright is likely to be back within one week as he takes to batting practice - MLB Update
With New York Mets meeting with the lowest ebb in Spring Training in all departments of play, early recovery by their injured third baseman, David Wright, will mean more than just a strengthened offensive front to them.
Mets’ manager Terry Collins is in a desperate look out for a booster to his side. Amazing career batting average of .300 and a record of being only with the Mets with maximum number of doubles scored, David Wright has all what the manager needs at this time.
“Early next week, that’s what our plan is, but we’ll see,” Collins said. “Just being out there for a full day and a full round of batting practice and not feel anything is pretty good.”
While a Mets through and through, both in terms of career records achieved and in being with them since 2001, he has hit 183 home-runs in his career. He had been a part of Mets along with Jose Reyes, a star shortstop who has now parted ways with the club
to Miami Marlins.
Both had been going through fantastic moments of their career together. In 2010, Wright completed his fifth appearance in an All-star Game as a third baseman, something that speaks volumes of the kind of player he is.
While in 2010, Mets saw lot of their contribution coming from him, in 2011 as he had to be put to a disabled list for a few months, Jose Reyes stepped up at then and made up for his absence.
Even in 2011, Wright managed to post a relatively impressive batting average of .254 with 14 home-runs, 61 RBIs and an OBP of .345. However, it was Reyes who actually had lifted the Mets largely during that season.
As at the end of 2011 season Reyes got injured, Wright had to field on the ground as a shortstop, something he had never experienced in his life before.
After handicapped by injuries last year and getting his performance affected a little bit as a result, Wright has his hopes high for this season. Only if he can be able to keep the malaise of an abdominal tear at bay throughout this year, his presence will
lift Mets immensely during the season.
