David Wright joins New York Mets for good after $138 million eight-year deal-MLB Update
David Wright can take pride from the fact that his dream has come true. By signing an eight-year worth $138 million contract extension with the New York Mets, he has become part of them for good.
He will be remembered as a prized asset for a single organisation as opposed to be the rolling stone that most of the players are in the Major League Baseball after he retires.
Earning the reputation that the likes of Chipper Jones enjoyed in the Atlanta Braves is great for Wright. He can draw pleasure from being among those few players in the MLB who started and ended their careers with only team.
Wright had to unleash splendours consistently in order to attain this level. Becoming a leader in terms of the number of hits struck by any player in the history of the organisation shows his contributions for the club.
Then, he appeared in All-Star Games time-and-again, which further explains the pride and honour that he brought for the organisation over the years.
In light of the above mentioned achievements, Wright deserved such treatment from the club. The manager of the Mets, Terry Collins also acknowledges laurels earned by Wright, both for himself and the club in the last many years.
“This is a great step forward,” Collins said. “It shows the organization steps up when they have to. It’s great for the Mets and our fans. I had all the confidence in the world it was going to get done before spring training. With David not signed, I don’t
know what the circumstances would have been. But it would have been an uncomfortable feeling for a lot of guys involved, so I just think it’s a great move for everybody. Hopefully we get R.A. done and get ourselves ready for the season.”
Collins has clarified that those players that did something special for the team are rewarded, regardless of the financial problems suffered by the club as a whole. Signing of Wright is an epic reflection of this, he says.
After Wright, R.A. Dickey is left to be made a decision about before the club.
It will be interesting to look forward to the outcome of the negotiations that are going on between Dickey and the Mets.
