David Wright offers assistance to New York Mets’ ownership
Things don’t look good for the New York Mets but that hasn’t stopped David Wright from pledging his allegiance to the franchise.
In recent news, the player extended his hand to the ownership at the club and offered them a helping hand. The club has been locked in battle with trustee, Irving Picard. The trustee has sued the Mets to retrieve the lost funds invested by victims of Bernard
Madoff’s Ponzi scheme.
All Star third baseman, Wright, is looking to do his part for the club by offering his assistance and he’s been in contact with the management to extend his services in any way possible. He recently contacted Chief Operating officer, Jeff Wilpon, to make
his intent known. He also sympathized with the executives’ situation.
"I called Jeff a few days ago just to let him know that I was thinking about him, and if he needed anything from me, I'm there for him", Wright said. "But it's got to be tough. Especially when you're talking about having your family go through this in such
a public way. You feel for them. But you understand the situation. Hopefully everything will work itself out in the end".
The Mets are looking to crop up good reserves for settlement of the suit if the verdict goes against the franchise. The ownership has told potential investors about a stake sale worth 20% to 25% of the company. Many interested groups are appearing on the
horizon but now word has been passed on an agreed settlement.
Wright was able to talk about the players in the situation. He told the press that he thought the litigation process wouldn’t affect the stars and that the matter would not spread onto the field, as spring training nears.
"Getting down here and playing baseball, you don't have to listen to every day what's going on in that situation", Wright said.
