David Wright shines as New York Mets defeat Florida Marlins 7-6 – MLB Update
New York Mets’ third baseman, David Wright had an extraordinary day with the bat as he went 2-for-5 with an average of .232 and hit two RBIs in the Mets’ 7-6 win against the Florida Marlins at Sun Life Stadium, Florida on July 22.
The Mets got off to a quick start as they posted three runs at the top of the first inning while the Marlins added one run to their score-card to cut their deficit 3-1 at the bottom of the first inning. Wright doubled off right-field and Justin Turner scored
one run. The second run was taken by Carlos Beltran when Daniel Murphy singled to right-field. Angel Pagan hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field and Wright contributed the third run for the Mets.
Logan Morrison was grounded out to first base but Emilio Bonifacio scored the first run for the Marlins during the first inning. Mike Stanton struck a solo homer (383 feet) towards right-field to reduce the Marlins’ lead 3-2 at the bottom of the second inning.
The Marlins further added one run in the third inning to level the score-card 3-3 when Omar Infante singled off left-centre and Bonifacio posted a single run on the throwing error of the Mets’ fielders.
In the fourth inning, Mets’ batters broke the tie runs by taking single and went ahead 4-3. Jose Reyes posted a single run on the drive of Beltran towards right-field. The pitchers were on top and controlled the runs in the fifth inning.
The Mets’ starter, Mike Pelfrey was expensive as he gave up four runs on five hits in his six inning pitches and threw the ball with an ERA of 4.73. He permitted four earned runs, four walks, two home-runs and had three strike-outs on his 115 pitches.
The game was tied again 4-all in the sixth inning when Gaby Sanchez hit a one-run homer (384 feet) to left-field. In the seventh inning, the score-board remained level but with 5-5 as Murphy posted one run for the Mets and Brett Hayes scored a tie run to
lift the Marlins’ momentum. In the eighth inning, the Mets put two runs while the Marlins were able to add only one run on the score-board and ended the game 7-6.
The Mets led off the three-game series 1-0 after winning this exciting game in Florida.
