Tied at 733 RBIs with Darryl Strawberry, David Wright hit a two-run homer to supersede him and lead the list of RBIs recorded by any player in the New York Mets. He is considered a pillar in the Mets’ offence and is one of the longest-tenured players with
the club.
Success the Mets are having so far in the season has a lot to do with his contribution. Currently standing at .362 season batting average with three home-runs, he is all set to deliver a fate-changing performance for his side.
As his contract with the Mets approaches an end, speculations are taking the round that he will not be retained by the club anymore. They say, just what happened with Jose Reyes, similar kind of fate awaits him.
The management has been tight-lipped so far and not willing to reveal anything, for them getting him to show his best in the season is the greatest priority.
Even if the management fears a decline in him and do not sign a contract extension deal, as per the Washington Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson, the Mets will do a grave disservice by overlooking him.

“Hopefully my career isn’t too close to being over so I can do some pretty good things both individually and for this team,” Wright said. “It’s one thing to go out there and play well individually, but I want to be mentioned when my Mets days are done for
different reasons, with Straw and Mike [Piazza] and these guys and that’s getting to the World Series and being on these winning teams.”
Regardless of his stay with the Mets, he will be remembered as one of the most dynamic hitters on the plate. The task at hand for him is just to keep the momentum going and take his side to the pinnacle of success this year.
