David Wright’s $138 million eight-year deal made official by New York Mets - MLB Update
Finally the deal between David Wright and the New York Mets, which was finalised a couple of weeks ago has been made official by the team. This is the latest revelation coming off from Nashville where the Winter Meetings are underway,
The announcement by the club was delayed because Wright had to get through the physical exam. As he has done so now, he has formally become a Met for good.
The deal will take him through 2020, which means that he plays his entire career with only one organisation. He has earned the distinction of beginning and ending his career with a single club.
There are a very few players in Major League Baseball who remain a part of just one organisation throughout their life. Chipper Jones is one of those individuals. Wright will be happy for being named along with the likes of Jones.
Wright secured a number of laurels while being a part of New York. He is considered as a source of pride for the fans thanks to his ability to produce hits consistently.
Leader of the franchise in terms of the number of hits, he has many more years left in his career with the Mets to make his record unbeatable.
During 2012 season, he was the only batter the Mets looked up to for scoring runs.
Especially at the beginning of the season, his contributions were stand out. By many accounts, he was the sole reason of wins piled up by New York at the start of the year.
The resolve of Wright to put up splendours must have strengthened now after he earns a lengthy contract extension from the club. He has formally thanked the top officials of the team for showing trust in him.
"I'd like to thank Fred Wilpon, Saul Katz and Jeff Wilpon for their commitment to me since I was drafted," Wright said. "I've grown up in this organization and made life-long friendships with teammates, uniform personnel and front office staff. I'm grateful
for the opportunity to finish what I've started and help bring the Mets and our fans a World Series title."
Keeping his top-notch form intact is a challenge now before Wright which he will like to accept readily.
It will be interesting to observe his role in the victories of the team in the upcoming seasons.
