David Wright’s double RBIs help New York Mets overpower Houston Astros, 6-4 – MLB Update
New York Mets’ third baseman, David Wright, displayed an outstanding performance with the bat as he hit a solo homer with two RBIs single in the Mets’ 6-4 win over the Houston Astros, at Minute Maid Park, Houston, on May 13.
Wright expressed his excitement and said, “When you look at the big picture, it's probably good and it's probably beneficial for the long run. It's just that when you get in the heat of the moment you don't want to take those days ... [but] I think it's
good to kind of recharge the battery.”
Pitchers were on top in the first two innings as they did not allow even a single run to any batter. The Astros got-off the mark in the third inning with 1-0, when Carlos Lee drove a single run on the sacrifice bunt off the left-field spot. Lee went 2-for-4
with the bat. The fourth and fifth inning passed away without any score for both the teams.
The sixth inning again went in favour of the Astros and they added three runs in it to extend the lead, 4-0. Chris Johnson, Brett Wallace and Bud Norris each contributed one run during sixth inning. On the other hand, the Mets broke their silence in the
seventh inning and cut-off their deficit to 4-1, when Jason Bay hit a one-run homer against the Astros’ starter, Norris. The last three innings went score-less for the Astros.
The eighth inning was full of score for the Mets as they gained momentum and went ahead with 5-4, when the batters added four runs in it. Wright and Fernando Martinez both struck two homers jointly for their team, while Justin Turner doubled towards the
right-centre field position to complete a four-run campaign.
Mets’ manager, Terry Collins, was much pleased with the performance of Wright and said, “It tells me that this guy needs a break every now and then because he plays the game as hard as anybody in the league. And when you run him out there 30-something times
in a row, he is going to run out of gas a little bit.”
In the ninth inning, Jose Reyes walked on the loaded bases and completed a single run to give the Mets a decisive 6-4 lead. Mets’ starter, Dillon Gee, was a little shaky with the ball as he pitched five innings and permitted four runs on five hits, with
four earned runs. Gee had six strike-outs and gave away four walks. The relievers threw pretty well for the Mets, as they went score-less in a combined four inning pitches.
Norris threw 7 1/2 innings and had eight strike-outs. He allowed four runs on five hits, including four earned runs.
