David Zabriskie of Team Garmin-Barracuda wins the sixth stage of Amgen Tour of California 2012
David Zabriskie of Team Garmin-Barracuda wins the fifth stage of the Tour of California after his tremendous performance during the event.
The cyclist finished the 29.7 kilometre race in a fastest time of 35 minutes and 59 seconds and overcame the race favourites.
Jens Voigt of Team RadioShack-Nissan finished 23 seconds behind and achieved the second spot with Tejay Van Garderen of Team BMC finishing further 9 seconds behind at the third position.
Robert Gesink of Team Rabobank, Andrew Talansky of Team Garmin-Barracuda and Peter Velits of Team Omega-Pharma-Quick Step achieved the next three positions.
The National Time Trial champion opened his 2012 winning account during the opening stage of the Tour de Langkawi.
David was happy with the stage victory and cited, "It would be the biggest win of my career, it would be amazing, but it's definitely not easy to come by, [after] getting second that many times.
“It would be a beautiful thing".
Stage 3 classifications leader Peter Sagan of Team Liquigas-Cannondale could not continue his dominance during the fifth stage of the event.
Sagan finished the race at the 52nd position and has lost his overall dominance at the race. He finished 3 minutes and 27 seconds down the race leader and has now dropped down to the 31st overall spot after the stage 5 classifications.
He cited, "This was a really good course for me, any course where I don't have to get out of the aero bars is advantageous".
"It's coming soon when they make the Olympic selection, so I wanted to put in a good performance for that".
The stage win has now helped David Zabriskie with the first overall position after the stage 5 classifications.
Tejay Van Garderen of Team BMC, Robert Gesink of Team Rabobank, Andrew Talansky of Team Garmin-Barracuda and Peter Velits of Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step hold the next four positions.
Luke Durbridge of Team Orica GreenEdge, Lawson Craddock of Tom Dumoulin of Team Argos-Shimano, Nathan Brown of Team Bontrager Livestrong and Wilco Kelderman of Team Rabobank were the top five cyclists on the day.
Sagan has succeeded during the first four stages of the Amgen Tour of California and the Slovakian is still a strong contender for the overall victory at the race.
