David versus Goliath: Englishmen in battle gear
Cricket enthusiasts in Europe, especially England have been disappointed time and again by the dismal performances of the English cricket team over the past two decades. England over the years have produced notable cricket players, however none of them have made their mark in the ODI format of cricket. It is pitiable that a nation from where the sport originated had to go through so many failures that left little to celebrate about for their sports fans.
On three occasions, England has made it to the cricket World Cup finals but on all such instances, they greatly dismayed the English fans who had to taste the bitter tang of disappointment. Australia however has enjoyed supremacy in the cricketing world for the last many years, winning three consecutive World Cups in succession. To top it off, Australia have challenged England many a times on their home turf, leaving a path of devastation on several counts. They have posed as the giant philistine warrior Goliath, challenging England who have sadly not dealt with them in a fitting manner.
However, English fans need not worry. For the English team is finally on the right track and have found their consistency. Their bowling attack has the right mix of variation, with Graeme Swann leading the spin bowling department. Anderson, Broad, Sidebottom, Harmison and Liam Plunkett are rightly placed for the fast paced bowling attack as the knights in the shining armour, who are preparing to go for battle against the Australian giants. The infantry division is being covered by Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Strauss, Paul Collingwood, Eoin Morgan, and Matt Prior. The team have found their consistency, and their recent performances against Pakistan are exemplary to say the least.
If they continue in this stride and fashion, Australia could find itself in a fix to deal with the men of David preparing for battle to topple the giant from its crown of supremacy. The test match win by Pakistan against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918 and Glen McGrath being names of the past. They also face disciplinary issues from key players such as Andrew Symonds. To sum it up, Ricky Ponting and his men find themselves in dire straits.
The English team does not consist of individual stars and that might be to their own benefit. The cohesion of the side and their recent form speaks volumes of the amount of potential they have to take over the temple of cricket and thwart the Australian threat on their home turf. Having said that, the English side must not get carried away by their recent victories against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, for Pakistan has the uncanny ability to bounce back which makes them highly unpredictable.
The army of David have a long way to go, but this period could be the start of the end of the global domination of cricket by the Kangaroos to hand it over to Anglo-Saxon colonialists. However this would mean that both David Saker and Andy Flower have a tough job ahead of them. Especially with Saker trying to keep his bowlers disciplined who sometimes have the tendency to act like sissy girls – Stuart Broad to be precise. Kevin Pietersen has a big job on his shoulders as one of the key players who can prove to be a great asset to the English side, provided he keeps playing a pivotal role in leading England towards victory.
The English have a plethora of gunners at their disposal in the form of talented batsmen and bowlers, who could be given a chance in this in-form Anglo-Saxon side. With this amount of ammunition, one could easily say that this English side has the potential to give the English cricket fans much to be pleased about.
The English side must also keep in mind the fact that they are not infallible, with several  haunting debacles in the past, they should be well aware of the phrase “Even a God king can bleed”,  well before they wear their battle gear on the field to retain the “cremated ashes of English cricket” in England.
