Davide Rebellin begins perfect day for Miche-Guerciotti after taking Tre Valli Varesine 2011

Miche-Guerciotti team’s Davide Rebellin showed a good performance and took his first victory after serving a two year suspension due to a case of doping. Rebellin was very happy after taking Tre Valli Varesine 2011 on Tuesday.
The race started in Besozzo and ended in Campione d’ltalia. The 40-year-old Italian road bicycle racer took the total of 4 hours, 41 minutes and 30 seconds to cover the distance of 199.13 kilometres.
After winning the stage, Rebellin told the media, “When I was alone with Pozzovivo with 300 metres to go, I knew I could win, it was a finish that suited me and I knew I was in good condition.”
He further added, “I came back because I knew I could still win big races, and hopefully I can still do more between now and the end of the season.”
In the final kilometres, he broke clear and Vincenzo Nibali of Liquigas-Cannondale managed to gain a lead under the red kite. Nibali’s attack served only to eliminate his team-mate Peter Sagan. After a few kilometres to go, Nibali’s effort fizzled out and
Pozzovivp increased his pace but he took the second place with 4 seconds down to the Italian.
Thibaut Pinot of FDJ was in third place with the difference of 7 seconds. In the final 300 metres, Enrico Gasparotto (Pro Team Astana) made it across, but the trio managed to gain a lead.
Recently, Rebellin took the overall fifth place in Brixia Tour and third place in G.P Camaiore. He also grabbed first place in La Fleche Wallonne and took two stages of Vuelta a Andalucia in 2009.
The Liquigas-Cannondale team was the big loser of the day because their leader failed to hold the pace in the sharp uphill finish at Campione d’ltalia, Although, Mauro Finetto was in the early break with Katusha team’s Pavel Brutt.
Ivan Basso showed his selfless work at the front of the leading cyclists in the final 4 kilometres. Basso increased his pace and controlled the attacks from the two cyclists including, Giampaolo Caruso of Katusha and Gianluca Brambilla of Colnago-CSF Inox
and managed to enter in the final kilometres.
However, Ivan Basso failed to hold the pace and grabbed 31st place with the difference of 1 minute and 11 seconds ahead of Geert Verheyen (Landbouwkrediet) and Gorazd Stangelj (Pro Team Astana).
Rebellin was very happy with his performance in the stage and also wants to continue for another two years. His performance after coming back from his two year ban was tremendous as he showed the other riders and teams his brilliant skills.
