Davide Valsecchi says Romain Grosjean deserved to remain in Lotus for 2013 – Formula 1 news
GP2 Champion, Davide Valsecchi has said that Romain Grosjean deserved to remain in Lotus for the 2013 Formula 1 season and expressed that he is hoping to become reserve driver in the British team for the next season.
Valsecchi was aiming to secure a race seat in the Enstone based team as Grosjean was not confirmed, until recently. However, now he has given up his hopes to become a race driver in the next year and is just looking forward to act as a test driver for the
British squad.
Although, he said that he could have secured a race seat in any other team as he has the required financial support with him. Nevertheless, he asserted that the Frenchman deserved the race seat more than him as he has been really fast in this season.
Therefore, he said that he is not feeling upset and is positively looking forward to perform his role as a good reserve driver in the coming year. In addition, he said that he will be very happy about his association with Lotus which is one of the best teams
in the world of F1.
“Grosjean deserved [to keep his seat] because he has proven to be very fast, so I think that, at the moment, the only hope is to become their third driver, which would not be bad because Lotus is the fourth best team in the world,” he said to Italiaracing.net.
It will be important to note that his GP2 Series opponent, Luiz Razia is also facing some uncertainties regarding the race seat for the next season.
Even though, Razia has a very tough competition with Giedo van der Garde, Jaime Alguersuari, Adrian Sutil and Vitaly Petrov. Nevertheless, he is still aiming to secure one at Caterham and Force India.
In contrast, Max Chilton has successfully secured his race seat at Marussia and will make his F1 debut in the coming year.
The competition amongst the new drivers to make their way into the sport is very tough and it will be interesting to see how the teams finalise their next year’s line-ups.
