Davide Valsecchi thinks he can replace Romain Grosjean at Lotus in 2013 – Formula 1 news
GP2 champion Davide Valsecchi has said that he sees himself as a potential replacement of Romain Grosjean at Lotus for the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Grosjean came back to the sport with the Enstone based team in 2012 and performed convincingly well in the opening few races. However, he faced a lot of criticism over his harsh driving style due to which many accidents happened in this season and eventually
caused retirements of a number of other drivers.
On the other hand, his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen also returned to the sport in this season with the British squad and has performed tremendously well.
The Finnish driver scored points with impressive consistency and secured third place in the drivers’ championship. Moreover, he stayed ahead of his main rival, Lewis Hamilton and stood behind Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who lost the championship title to
Sebastian Vettel only by 3 points.
The 2007 world champion has successfully secured his race seat at Lotus for the coming year. However, the future of the French driver is still uncertain and there are many speculations which are stating that he may get replaced by any other driver in the
next season.
Meanwhile, Valsecchi has expressed his inclination towards making his debut in F1 by joining Lotus as Grosjean’s replacement in the coming season.
The Italian driver said that he doesn’t want anything bad for Grosjean, but hinted himself favourite for the Frenchman’s replacement.
“I don’t wish anything bad against Grosjean,” Valsecchi told the Autosprint magazine, “but if he’s not there then I see myself as the favourite.”
Although, he said that it is too early to express anything in this regard, but insisted that his aim is to make his way into F1 for which he will work really hard.
Besides, he said that if he succeeds in getting the breakthrough, he will surely prove his potential in the sport and will emerge as one of the most competent young drivers.
“It’s perhaps too early to talk about it,” GP2 Champion said.
“My goal is to get into Formula One and then prove that I deserve the chance,” the Italian driver added.
