Davies hails Bolton spirit
Bolton Wanderers captain Kevin Davies has paid tribute to the team spirit of the side after Bolton fought back to earn a 2-2 draw with Birmingham over the weekend.
Bolton played a large part of the game with only ten men after Jussi Jaaskelainen was sent off for slapping a Birmingham City player around the face. Birmingham strolled into a 2-0 lead before Bolton came back in the second-half.
It was a remarkable performance by Bolton and Davies says that only his club would have been capable of getting a point under such circumstances. He hopes that the positive feeling created around the club will now continue.
Having a great team spirit among a playing squad often allows a club to move forward and it can eradicate any difference in quality when playing a better team. However, Bolton need to make things much easier for themselves if they want to break the top ten this season.
A great team spirit
Bolton are not a team that has a high number of world class players in the playing squad. This means the club have to rely on the quality they have at the club and the youths that come up through the academy.
In a sense this makes it easier for them to bond because the majority of the players will have played together for a long time. They will be used to each other, they will socialise with each other and they will see each other nearly every day.
This creates a unique spirit that you do not find at top clubs that are filled with gifted stars. This is because better players often have egos and this creates difference of opinion among the playing squad.
Davies said: "As long as I have been here we have always had great spirit. I think without it the last two or three seasons we might not have survived. We have always had that and even more so this season. The spirit has always been great here and that is one of our main qualities."
Make things easy
Bolton cannot rely on their team spirit for an entire season and they have to try and make things much easier for themselves. This means that all players have to be disciplined in order to make sure there are no further suspensions among the squad.
Better sides would not have let Bolton off of the hook so easily. If Bolton give any of the top four or five sides a chance to press home an emphatic win then they will do so without thinking twice about it.
Davies added: "At 2-0 I think we would have taken a point. We didn't start the game particularly well but we felt at half-time we could still get back in the game. We made hard work of it but we did in the end. We kept pushing at them even when Jussi went off."
Betting advice
Bolton are always one of the more unpredictable sides each Premier League season. The best option is to take one game at a time, being very cautious and back the team when they are playing a game where you would expect them to win with ease.
They still lack a little bit of quality when it comes to playing the better sides although they have managed a few surprising results over the last few seasons. Davies is a good candidate to be top scorer at the club. He has bags of experience and could be a decent outside bet to be the top English scorer in the Premier League this year.
