Davis Love III aims to rely on players’ forms and experience for the US Ryder Cup team selection
The United States’ Ryder Cup team captain Davis Love III rated the post PGA Championship weeks as crucial and nervous, as he will announce the names of four players to be added to his squad on September 4, 2012.
At the end of the PGA Championship last week, eight players made their way into the US team through automatic qualification.
The top eight players include Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson, Jason Dufner, Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar and Phil Mickelson.
Hunter Mahan, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk and Rickie Fowler are currently viewed as the probable four to be selected in the team. However, Love discarded the idea of short-listing any player at this stage.
He told that he will consider the names after having a complete look at their performances in the upcoming weeks.
"We are very excited about this top eight,” he said. “If you go right down the list through 20, we have got a great group of guys to pick from. There's a lot of golf to be played. Nobody's out and nobody's really in, yet. This is a big three weeks”.
According to Love, he will mainly focus on players’ forms while considering their names for the team. In addition to that, he told that the players will have to depend on their experience and ability to perform under pressure in order to make it to the final

"There's no set formula to make it now,” he said during a press conference on Monday. "It's whoever's hot, and obviously we'll lean towards experience. I think it's going to come down to a gut decision".
In the meantime, he also said that the decision will not be an easy one, as the competition is very strong and players are very close to each other on the points table.
There are a number of players who do not have victories registered to their names this year. However, they did perform brilliantly in some of the events that they played.
On the other hand, there are few players who have plenty of experience in the Ryder Cup type tournaments and can be handy if given the chance to play this year.
Therefore, Love will have to spend each and every hour of the remaining few days evaluating players and building a perfect squad to defeat the Europeans in one of the most prestigious events of the sport.
"I'm very nervous of the next three weeks, of having to pick four more guys," he said.
