Davis Love III and Ben Crane withdraw from the RBC Heritage
Davis Love III and Ben Crane will not be playing the upcoming PGA Tour (Professional Golf Association) event, the RBC Heritage.
The RBC Heritage is scheduled to start from April 12 to 15, 2012 at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
The official purse is $5.7 million and $1,026,000 is the winning share. The winner will achieve additional 500 FedEx Cup points.
Both the professional players have withdrawn from the event. In an interview with the tournament officials, they said that they did not want to give any reason for the withdrawal.
Love is renowned as the five-time champion of the Heritage. He recorded impressive victories in 1987, 1991, 1992, 1998 and 2003.
His best winning score was recorded in 1998. He won the title of the PGA staged event by seven strokes against the runner-up, Glen Day.
Since turning professional in 1985, the 47-year-old American has also won 20 PGA Tour titles. He also recorded his debut major win at the PGA Championship in 1987, whereas he finished the major tournaments 20 times in the top-10.
Crane, the 36-year-old American professional golf player, has won four PGA Tour titles in his career. He also played the Masters, a week before, and impressed the spectators by making appealing strokes.
He finished tied for the 17th position at Augusta and is now on a layoff time period. He won his last title in 2011 at the McGladrey Classic.
The absence of both the players at the RBC Heritage will be making the field less competitive and all their fans will be missing them in South Carolina.
Brandt Snedeker will be defending his title this year. Last year, he won the event in a playoff mode by scoring an early birdie against the current world No. 1 Luke Donald.
Both the professionals scored 12-under 272 in 2011, and played well throughout the four-day tournament. Tommy Gainey finished third and was one stroke behind the leading position by scoring an 11-under 273.
The field is set and after the withdrawal of Love and Crane, the alternative players are Jason Kokrak and Gary Christian. They will tee off the RBC Heritage on coming Thursday, and spend most of their time practising on the course.
