Davis Love III and K.J. Choi confirmed for the Greenbrier Classic
The US Ryder Cup team captain Davis Love III and the 2011 Players Championship winner K.J. Choi have been added to the published field of the Greenbrier Classic, at the Old White TPC, in White Sulphur Springs, slated to start from Thursday, July 5, 2012.
The field was released last week after confirmation by the players till 5:00pm Friday. Choi’s name in the list confirms the participation of the 14 top-50 players in the event.
The 33-ranked South Korean, Choi, is confident to make a good impression in the event to return to his form.
In the current PGA Tour season, he only managed to record one top-10 finish in the 14 events that he has played so far.
Therefore, it is essential for him to improve his track record in the season, especially when the Open Championship is approaching this month.
On the other hand, Love has a relatively better record on the PGA Tour in 2012. He has a top-three finish registered to his name that came in the FedEx St. Jude Classic. In total, he has played 11 events so far and managed to record four top-25 finishes.
In his past two appearances in the Greenbrier Classic, he finished at the 60th position and missed the cut in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
Love has a lifetime membership on the PGA Tour, which is given to the players who have spent more than 15 years playing and have won more than 20 events in their careers.
"We're so pleased," the resort’s Executive Director Tim McNeely said after the field's release. "What an unbelievable field, and to add K.J. really rounds it out. The Ryder Cup captain and K.J., with all the accomplishments he brings. Couldn't be happier”.
In addition to Choi and Love III, there are several other big names that are confirmed to appear in the event this year.
Tiger Woods, ranked fourth in the Official World Golf Rankings after a win in last week’s AT&T National, is aiming to further improve his track record on the tour.
Webb Simpson and Keegan Bradley, the reigning US Open and PGA Champion, respectively, will also tee off on Thursday.
