Davis Love III announces his final Ryder Cup team, Mahan misses out
All the speculations and rumours finally came to an end when the US Ryder Cup Captain, Davis Love III announced his four wild card picks for the tournament.
Ryder Cup will take place later this month at Chicago, Illinois.
Brandt Snedeker, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk and Dustin Johnson are the lucky ones who have made it in to the team. Rickie Fowler and Hunter Mahan are the notables who have missed out.
Brandt Snedeker will be playing in his first Ryder Cup. The way he is playing, his putting especially, made it difficult for Love to leave him out.
Medinah Golf Club is a tricky course where excellent putting skills are required. Snedeker, as we know, has been in sublime form on the greens. "We need hot putters," Love said. "There really hasn't been a better putter since the British Open".
Snedeker is extremely happy about the fact that Love has chosen him and he said that he will try his best to live up to his Captain’s expectations.
"I look forward to getting to Medinah and trying to make Davis look like he is a genius," Snedeker joked.
Hunter Mahan has won twice this year on the PGA tour but his form, lately, has not been much impressive. "It just feels empty right now," said Mahan.
Jim Furyk who will be featuring in his eighth Ryder Cup was pretty excited. Johnson made it to his second Ryder Cup. He was also looking forward to playing in the Ryder Cup very anxiously.
"I'm really looking forward to playing one on US soil," Johnson said.
The USA Ryder Cup team is pretty strong, as it looks to reclaim the Ryder Cup. It boasts huge experience and talent.
"We all know how much fun it is and how much pride it takes to be part of this team," Stricker said. "It will be exciting to play for Davis. It will be tremendous to get together for that one common goal and get that Cup back".
Davis Love III has already said that he will be counting on his experienced pros to deliver the goods for him.
It would be an interesting match and, one never knows, we might see Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods going head to head once again.
