Davis Love III is honoured by yet another award
Davis Love III has been honoured with yet another award by the U.S. Golf Association. The US Ryder Cup captain has had a terrific career to date, not only he has been an excellent golfer but he is also one of the finest sportsmen the game has ever seen.
USGA announced that Davis Love III will be presented with Bob Jones Award 2013. The Bob Jones award is the highest honour and is presented to a player who shows spirit, personal character and respect as demonstrated by Jones in his illustrious career.
“Throughout his impressive career, Davis has distinguished himself with his sense of fair play, integrity and reverence for the game’s traditions,” said USGA President Glen D. Nager.
“His passion for the game, as well as the values and principles that guide his everyday life, are emblematic of the characteristics that the Bob Jones Award seeks to identify. Golf and all those who play it are inspired by Davis' example”.
Love will be presented with the prestigious Bob Jones award at USGA’s annual meeting, which is to be held on the 2nd of February in San Diego.
His dignity, graciousness and the kind of sportsman spirit he has displayed over the course of his career has earned him this award.
Davis also launched Davis Love Foundation in 2005, which has been working to improve the health and living standards of risked children throughout America.
“Davis epitomizes everything that Bob Jones stood for with his character, integrity, displays of sportsmanship and his spirit of giving back,” said PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem.
This is not the first time that Love has been honoured with an award. He has received numerous awards throughout his career, including USGA International Book Award for “Every Shot I Take” and PGA Tour’s Payne Stewart Award.
The American has won 20 tournaments to date on the PGA Tour, including the 1997 PGA Championship.
Apart from wining 20 titles on the PGA Tour, Love has represented America all over the globe. He has played in six Ryder Cups, six President Cups and in the 1985 Walker Cup where his inspirational performance led his team to victory.
