Davis Love III is not worried about the poor record of his star players
The American trio of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk has been the back bone of their Ryder Cup team for more than a decade. Their individual record is indeed extremely brilliant. The trio in total has won 19 majors and 146 official tournaments
all over the globe.
However, for some reason or the other they could not transform their tour form in the Ryder Cup. The only joyous moment they have shared together was the stunning comeback they made at Brookline.
So what could be the reason for their poor record at the Ryder Cups? Is it that they have been mostly on the losing side or the fact that their poor outings have led to the defeat at the hands of the Europeans?
According to Tiger Woods, both factors are accountable.
“In order to win cups, you have to earn points. And we certainly have not earned points. And on top of that, Phil, Jim and myself have been put out there a lot during those years. So if we’re not earning points, it’s hard to win Ryder Cups that way,” said
the former world number one.
Jim Furyk said that he would have surely hoped for a better record than that. Well, if he wants to improve it, then he must prove himself at Medinah.
“I would have expected and definitely wished for a much better record than that,” said Furyk, who was selected as a captain’s pick for the first time.
The man who should be the most worried by this record is completely calm. Davis Love III is not at all concerned about the Ryder Cup form of his top players because he knows that they are a class act.
He knows that once they get going, it would be hard to stop them. "But it comes down to who do you want on your side - I will take Tiger Woods as my partner any time. I got him a couple of times and he's a great partner," Love stated.
Love is showing enough faith in his players for them to put up a strong show at the Ryder Cup. It has been a while since the Americans have tasted success at this level. It will be exciting to see if the tables turn for them this time around.
