Davis Love III plays it through - Shriners for Hospital Open
It has been a tough going for all the Ryder Cuppers since the showdown ended in Medinah. Many of the players are too tired to play.
Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy even lost their opening matches at the Turkish Airways World Golf Finals.
It seemed that Martin Kaymer, Peter Hanson and Paul Lawrie were still in the Ryder Cup hangover, as Lawrie missed the cut at Dunhill Open Links. Kaymer and Hanson did make the cut but they were nowhere to be seen on the leaderboard.
However, there is one man, Davis Love III, who is finding it smooth and easy. Love went to Las Vegas to participate in the Shriners for Hospital Open.
After shooting a good few rounds, he found himself on the leaderboard. Towards the end, however, tiredness from the Ryder Cup overcame him and he faded away over the weekend.
"It's good to get back to playing,'' Love said. "It distracts me for four, five hours a day from thinking about [the Ryder Cup]".
He added, "I've got a lot of great memories, and when I get by myself I start second-guessing and start wishing that we would have done something a little different and could've gotten those guys a win''.
This Ryder Cup will haunt Team USA for a long period of time and the only way to get over it is to keep one’s mind off it.
Love is doing the right thing by playing in the tournaments. It can be the best remedy, although he knows that the memories of the 39th Ryder Cup will continue to haunt him and his team for a long time.
“I don't think it'll ever go away. It was a great team. They played great. They had some bad breaks on Sunday and some guys holed some putts on 'em and turned it over. You can't take away from a great week, but winning is what it's all about and we didn't
win''.
Being a captain of the losing side is the most difficult place to be in. Not only does one have to cheer yourself up but the entire team as well.
When you know that the team had put in so much effort and it still could not pull it off, that is when it hurts the most.
