Davis Love III remains consistent at the FedEx St. Jude Classic
Davis Love III added another 68 to his score on the second day of the FedEx St. Jude Classic to share the eighth place on the leaderboard on Friday, June 8, 2012.
Love managed to score four birdies against two bogeys to stand three strokes behind the leader Rory McIlroy.
Overall, it was a consistent display of game by him as he looked pretty confident on each of the holes he played.
He told that the course conditions were really difficult and he was happy to post such a good score on the leaderboard.
He said that his group mates played really well during the round but failed to break the par. Therefore, he felt really satisfied after comparing himself with them at the end of the round.
“I shot 2-under again but it was not like yesterday but I'm hitting the ball pretty well,” he said. “I'm hitting a few loose shots. This course is playing tough. I played with two guys that didn't play that bad and were way over par”.
“You're not in the right places in the fairway, not in the right places around the green, this course can play pretty tough”.
“My son pointed out yesterday if I was in the fairway I was close to the hole. I'm hitting the ball pretty well if I'm in the fairway,” he added.
When asked about his approach for the upcoming rounds, he replied by saying that he will focus on hitting the fairways as much as he can, as it is the key to success in Memphis.
Moreover, it will also help him in the upcoming US Open, scheduled for the next week at the Olympic Club.
The current leader in St. Jude Classic, McIlroy, will defend the title next week. He appeared at the TPC Southwind because he wanted to regain his form after missing the cut in each of the tournaments that he played in the last three weeks.
Therefore, it was essential for him to play some competitive rounds that may help him in the US Open.
Until now, he is playing really well. He carded a five-under par in the second round to take a one-stroke lead over Kevin Stadler, Jeff Maggert and J.B. Holmes.
