Davis Love III shoots 65 in contention at McGladrey Classic after round one
Ryder Cup defeat seems to have had a positive impact on Davis Love III. This is his third consecutive start since the loss against Europe. Love has been playing some decent golf since the US team lost in a dramatic fashion under his captaincy.
Playing golf was probably the best remedy for Love but shooting low scores and being in contention for the title is a big bonus.
At the McGladrey Classic, Love shot a decent round of five-under 65. The world number 148 did not have the best of starts, as he opened with a bogey. However, he later redeemed himself by birdying the fifth hole.
Davis was even par for the first nine holes but he really turned things around on the back nine. Love had been very low on energy since the defeat against Europe, in Chicago.
'The only adjustment I've made is more Red Bull to keep my energy up,' Love told PGATour.com.
'After the Ryder Cup I've been playing these last two weeks and I'm ready to play. The responsibilities, the parties and all that are a lot of fun, but when I get up in the morning I can tell I'm not getting a whole lot of rest’.
It shows the character Love is made of. To come up with such strong performances after such a painful loss, that too, at the hands of your archrivals in the Ryder Cup, is not an easy thing.
It takes a great deal of courage and skill to bounce back heavily after such a loss. 'But I'm feeling good. I'm excited to play,' he expressed.
Love must not get carried away by his performance at the Seaside course. There are still three more rounds to play. Currently, Love is three shots behind the joint leaders, Bud Cauley and Marco Dawson.
Both Bud and Dawson are searching for their first wins on the tour. However, for Dawson, securing the PGA Tour card for the next season is more important than winning. He is so far behind in the money tour list that only a victory can save him.
The Indian Arjun Atwal opened the McGladrey Classic with a decent round of three-under 67. However, a good thing for him was that it was a bogey-less round.
