Before winning the World Tour Finals in London last November – during which he defeated both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal – Nikolay Davydenko was perhaps the most anonymous player in the top 10. But that, coupled with another tournament in January where he repeated the dose against both the world No. 1 and No.2, saw Davydenko arrive in Melbourne with a higher profile than he’d previously had coming into a Grand Slam.
