Dawn Approach, the rising star for the Jim Bolger team for the 2013 season
Galloping in the steps of his father, New Approach, Dawn Approach got trainer, Jim Bolger, his fifth Dewhurst Stakes out of the past seven editions of the race. It is not only the father and colt relation that has brought the proud stable this far, the son-in-law jockey, Kevin Manning, also surged his record by winning the spectacle for a fifth time. He is the stable jockey for the Irish trainer, and has ridden both ‘Approach’ to success at the same race.
Kevin Manning has been the regular jockey for New Approach and Dawn Approach.
Dawn Approach has beaten his father who was able to extend the winning streak to five only, as the two-year-old settled the 2012 campaign with the sixth success in row.
The team has come a full circle with the stallion colt pair, with the father bringing in the title in 2007, and right after five years, the son of the chestnut horse has not disappointed the connections.
Dawn Approach became the first colt to race in the royal blues of the Godolphin banner despite being under the supervision of trainer, Jim Bolger, and not the two Emirati trainers, Mahmood Al Zarooni and Saeed Bin Suroor. According to the owner, Sheikh Mohammed, the brilliant colt will stay under the supervision of the same trainer.
"It was Sheikh Mohammed's decision," said the Godolphin racing manager, Simon Crisford. "The colt won't run again this year. He'll go back to Ireland, he'll come back for next year's 2,000 Guineas and we'll take it from there. He could be aimed at the major 10-furlong races in the summer."
The two-year-old colt out of, Hymn Of The Dawn, is set to achieve a seven out of seven by taking down the 2,000 Guineas in the next season, and has already gained widespread popularity for it. Accomplishing the feat and the title will make him fill in the gaps that his father left behind.
If Dawn Approach will race before the 2,000 Guineas when the 2013 season kicks in, has not been made public yet.
The Jim Bolger team has a lot to look out for in the coming season; thriving relations with the Godolphin, making the most by allocating the stable’s valuable and irreplaceable resources (Kevin Manning), and making Dawn Approach a 2013 racing legend.
