Dawn Approach and Toronado set for Goodwood clash – Horseracing news
Dawn Approach and Toronado are all set to take on each other in the Qipco Susses Stakes (British Champions Series) (Group 1) at Goodwood in England at the end of July.
Both runners are in terrific form and have been against each other in the past too, but the former of them two managed to pip his rival in the end by a short head distance last time around.
Despite that, Toronado’s camp is really confident of changing things around this time around, as he is a decent performer and has done a great job during this season. Although he does not have the backing of the bookies against Dawn Approach, it will be
a huge mistake to rule him out of contention completely.
The three-year-old colt has participated in a total of six races, winning four of them whereas finished as a runner up once in the race, where he was up against his strongest rival Dawn Approach.
There was another occasion where the two of these stallions came against each other, but that race was dominated the latter, who has got a fabulous record.
However, assistant trainer of Toronado Richard Hannon jnr said, “I thought we came there to beat Dawn Approach and were unlucky at Ascot, but to his credit he stayed on and beat us. I'm not saying we'll beat Dawn Approach but we are fully entitled to go
to Goodwood and take him on again. He's a hard horse to go past.”
On the other hand, the favourite trainer Jim Bolger said of Dawn Approach’s last race, “I saw the St James's Palace Stakes a couple of times afterwards and I was more interested in what happened to my own horse rather than any other horse. I know we got
a good smack from the inside which knocked him sideways for a couple of strides but he recovered quickly.”
Dawn Approach’s previous race was his comeback after he suffered a shocking defeat in the Epsom Derby. He has won eight out of his nine races, which clearly goes onto show how dominant he is. However, he has not yet recovered fully from the setback he suffered
at Epsom, so his rivals might get a chance at Goodwood.
