Dawn Approach heading for first graded success in the Coventry Stakes at Ascot
One of the eigth colts risking his unbeaten record in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes is Dawn Approach. The race will be staged at Ascot over six furlongs on Tuesday, 19th June. Representing Jim Bolger in the same race is the three time second position holder, Leitir Mor.
However, the favourite with 9/2 remains to be New Approach’s two-year-old chestnut colt, Dawn Approach.
He started off his debut campaign by winning the Tally Ho Stud European Breeders Fund 2YO Maiden on 25th March at Curragh over five furlongs. The evening’s favourite winner was coupled with K. J. Manning and the two led the runner up of the race, Canary Row, by 1 ¾ lengths.
Coming at terms with the third position was Forester.
His second career opportunity surfaced on 16th May and presented itself in the form of the Fishery Lane Race at Naas over six furlongs. For a straight second time, Dawn Approach won as the favourite of the race and set Canary Row as the runner up. He led Canary Row by five and a half lengths.
Filling up the third slot was Tennessee Wildcat.
He struck a hat trick on 4th June through the first three races of the career which remains to be an impossibility for many. The two-year-old was the 4/9 favourite winner of the Alfred Nobel Rochestown Stakes at Naas over six furlongs.
Not only are there eight more candidates contesting today with unbeaten records but there is Dawn Approach’s own stable mate who might not have all wins on the profile but has accomplished just the next best.
Today will the first time for the Hymn Of The Dawn foaled to take part in a graded race.
"He could be very good - I haven't had many that are better than him. It wouldn't matter to him whether it was five, six or seven furlongs or a mile, it wouldn't make any difference.
"I'd be confident he'll run well and if anything there is better than him then good luck to them", commented the trainer.
Displaying so much confidence in his under charge will make him strike a fourth win in a row or not, will not take long to unfold.
