Dawn Approach set to make a surprise appearance in St James's Palace Stakes – Horseracing News
Dawn Approach is set to make a surprise comeback in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, despite the fact that his camp had earlier decided not to race him anytime soon after being defeated in the Investec Derby.
The quality runner is going to take part in a training session, which will help his team determine whether he is ready to take on his rivals in a competitive event.
According to his trainer Jim Bolger, “He's been left in the St James's Palace Stakes and subject to a satisfactory piece of work on Thursday, he is an intended runner.”
On the other hand, Godolphin’s racing manager Simon Crisford, “Jim is very happy with how Dawn Approach has done since the Derby and he is keen to let him run at Royal Ascot if everything continues to go well with his preparation
between now and the race on Tuesday. We had a discussion this morning and decided to let him run if he pleases in his work on Thursday. Jim has been delighted with how relaxed Dawn Approach has been in his training.”
Looking at the current situation, it seems that the three-year-old colt will definitely take part in the all important race at Ascot. This will be bad news for his rivals, as they would have been expecting an easy competition.
They will now have to be at their very best in order to fight for a victory.
Dawn Approach got a fabulous start to his career in 2012 and it seemed that he would emulate what Frankel achieved for his camp. The former of the two runners was unbeaten in his first seven races and entered the Investec Derby
as a clear favourite.
However, things did not work out well for him back then and he suffered a chocking defeat in the end. He was simply out of control during that race and finished at the bottom of the table.
After looking at the replay of the race, Bolger had decided that something was wrong with his stallion, so it was ideal not to race him in any tough event. Now, it seems that Dawn Approach has made a quick recovery and forced his
camp to change their strategy.
