Dawn Approach set to star in Investec Derby - Horseracing News
Dawn Approach is set to dominate the Investec Derby (Group 1) (Entire Colts & Fillies), as he has been rated as the outright favourite to succeed in the all-important event. There are some decent stallions up against him but they
do not stand any chance according to the bookmakers.
Moreover, the favourite trainer Jim Bolger is also confident of winning the race. He said, “Dawn Approach is what he is and it will be his relaxed manner and class that will see him get the trip, if that is to happen. We'll find
that out soon enough. He is very well and the ground drying out is good news. He did his final piece of work on Tuesday and we were very happy with him.”
Some of the runners were concerned about the track conditions but things have improved over the past couple of days, which is a positive sign. This way, all of the participants will be able to come out attacking on race day in
order to entertain the spectators.
Andrew Cooper, clerk of the course at Epsom, has been looking at the ground closely and he is expecting good news for the participants.
He stated, “We will review it (track) again in the morning, but we are expecting a dry night and a drying day tomorrow, perhaps not as warm as today, but it is slowly improving and I could see us calling it good.”
If there is no more rain at Epsom, Dawn Approach might end up winning the race by a comfortable margin of more than five lengths. He is a quality performer and has proved that with his performances in the past. No one has ever
managed to defeat him, which shows that there will be immense pressure on his rivals during the Investec Derby.
The Irish colt has just appeared in one race this year and did not show any signs of rustiness, as he stormed to the top of the table by five lengths. He has been partnered by veteran jockey Kevin Manning throughout his career
and the pair will once again come together in the class-1 encounter. It will be interesting to see whether they manage to stretch their 100 percent winning record or any other runner will have the better of them.
