Dawn Approach tipped for success in Epsom Derby
Dawn Approach has been rated as the favourite to succeed in the Epsom Derby, which is scheduled to take place in the opening week of June this year. He was expected to be challenged by Telescope, but the young stallion has been dropped out of the event because
of an injury.
Sir Michael Stoute, who has won the Derby five times, said: “Telescope suffered grazing on his left front and hind legs when he went for a trip on the horse box. It has blown up a little bit which leaves us a little tight time-wise for Thursday. Regarding
the Derby, we will know more in the next 48 hours, but we may take him for an away workout next week.”
On the other hand, Highclere's Harry Herbert said: “He's got a minor problem after scuffing a pastern. Blood tests taken have revealed that he is fighting an infection so he can't run in the Dante. It's a great shame, having happened right on the eve of
the race. Fortunately it is not life or career-threatening.”
Telescope doesn’t have much experience, as he has participated in just a couple of events until now. He has shown some signs of being a competitive runner, but needs to work on his fitness in order to take on the best in the business.
The three-year-old challenger made his debut last year and impressed one and all with his first ever run. Although he was unable to finish on top of the table, he ended up second overall. This gave his immense confidence and he delivered a strong run next
time around.
However, he has not taken part in any race this year, which means that he is a touch rusty. He needs to get fit enough to beat some of the better runners this year.
Coming back to Dawn Approach, he would have wanted some competition from his rivals. He is a quality performer and has never let his team down in any event. Overall, he has participated in a total of seven races and no one has managed to defeat him in them.
If he continues winning in a similar fashion, he will be considered as one of the best of all time.
