Dawn Approach to protect his streak in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes
Bred and trained by James S. Bolger in Ireland, Dawn Approach has so far in 5 starts has managed to stay undefeated in his debut season as a 2-year-old, and the New Approach colt is serious about keeping his unbeaten run intact when he goes out to extend it in the Group 1 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes.
The Godolphin owned colt worked for his assignment for Jim Bolger, and it was a solid work at Beechy Park in Ireland, when he went out in company with the fellow Dubai Dewhurst Stakes entry, Leitir Mor, as the dup went five and one-half furlongs.
Bolger said that he couldn’t be more please with the work Dawn Approach had turned in, and having won four editions of the 6 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes renewals, Bolger knows how to approach the race, and there is good chance that Dawn Approach will keep his winning stream going.
"One thing that they very much have in common is the will to win," the trainer remarked. "After that, there would not be a lot of similarities. New Approach was highly charged and it was a bit of a struggle to keep the lid on him. But this fellow is quite laid back, even lazy in his races. He is very relaxed and I don't have any horses that sleep longer than he does. But he seems to have the same ability as New Approach."
Out of Phone Trick’s mare Hymn Of The Dawn, Dawn Approach under Godolphin’s silks was seen last time out emphatically taking the Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh over a distance of seven furlongs.
On 15 September, 2012, under jockey K. Manning, Dawn Approach defeated, Designs on Rome in second and Leitir Mor in third, while he went on to cover the seven furlong distance in 1 minute and 25.50 seconds.
Prior to that, on 19 June, Dawn Approach was successful in taking the Grade 2 Coventry Stakes at Ascot. A six furlong sprint he landed in 1 minute and 13.64 seconds.
Dawn Approach’s undefeated run has made him Europe’s leading juvenile on official figures.
