Dawnguard might be a Xbox 360 Exclusive – Video Games Update
Bethesda has stated that the expansion for the 2011 Game of the Year, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (TES5 or Skyrim), which was released on the Xbox 360 last month, might end up being exclusive to the console.
Skyrim is the fifth installment of the massively popular Elder Scrolls series and was released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the PC on November 11, 2012. The game was met with a positive reception from gamers and critics and managed to sell over 12
million units since launch across the three platforms. The Xbox 360 version leads the sales with over 6 million copies followed by almost 4 million for the PlayStation 3 and over 2 million on the PC.
There were also many complaints by gamers regarding the various bugs found in the game which Bethesda continues to patch with updates. The PlayStation 3 version was the worst out of the three with almost game breaking bugs which made the game almost unplayable
for many. Bethesda is still in the process of releasing patches to fix the PlayStation 3 version with patch 1.7 on the way.
Ever since the release of Fallout 3 in 2007 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Bethesda has had a deal with Microsoft which stated that all the downloadable content (DLC) expansions would be timed exclusive to the Xbox 360 making their way to the PC and
PlayStation 3 a month after the Xbox release. This was also the case with all the Fallout: New Vegas DLC but apparently it’s going to be a bit different this time with Skyrims’ DLC.
The first Skyrim DLC, Dawnguard, made its way to the Xbox 360 version first on June 26, 2012 so naturally PC and PlayStation 3 fans were awaiting the DLC release on their system of choice in the end of July. They have been disappointed as Bethesda has announced
today that the Dawnguard DLC has been only announced for the Xbox 360 and right now the studio has no details regarding a PC and PlayStation 3 version.
"We have not announced Dawnguard for any other platform, nor given a timeline for any such news. If we have news, I promise I'd tell you,” stated Bethesda Marketing Chief Pete Hines much to the dismay of fans. Gamers are speculating that the real reason
behind this is that Bethesda might need more time to polish the PC and the PlayStation 3 versions to ensure a bug free DLC launch.
